"Commencement"

This is truly the final issue of Avengers Academy and I liked it. I said a couple months ago that I wasn't attached to any of these characters and could care less about this title but that has changed. I am starting to really like a few of them and am glad to know that I will follow them to Avengers Arena whatever that is going to end up being or however long that lasts.
Anyhow, this is the next step for our young people. They have found out that they were originally kept at Avengers Academy to be watched because they may be dangerous but they learn that they are truly the Avengers of the future. They are going to start being able to go out on missions with veteran heroes and learn more about what their futures hold.

This issue dealt with, more than anything, relationships. There were levels of closure between different members of the team as well as new relationships beginning. The one thing that has to be mentioned is that Veil, who is powered down, is no longer with the team and is back at a normal high school after all of this. She is a minor and so can't be a part of the Avengers because it is too dangerous. There is a nice moment showing that she is able to take care of herself now.

There is a lot of warmth at the end of this issue but I have one glaring question: What is Finesse up to? I have a bad feeling she is going to be a major cause of Avengers Arena but I am not certain. Maybe someone can help me out here.

Anyhow, if you have enjoyed Avengers Academy, read this book. This is the last one, so enjoy it.

  1. This was a great sendoff for the Academy characters and although i am pretty sure that there are still some arcs unresolved, it was a decent ending with lots of character-closer and an idea what the group will be up to..

Still not really looking forward to Avengers Arena, but i will give it a chance (of course)
