"The Greatest Freakshow on Earth"
The issue starts out with every kids' dream, a school with no teachers. Of course Quentin Quire doesn't trust that the teachers are actually gone but when he learns that it is true, he leaves the school with some of the other students. At the same time, Max (of the Hellfire Club) is following Idie in the woods using his preacher robot to continue to brainwash her. We quickly learn that Max is a Frankenstein which is why he is so good at science in general.
It seems that the teachers of the school are kidnapped and brainwashed to work at a nearby circus that is run by Frankenstein's monster who was introduced a couple issues ago. The X-Men are being forced to perform without any knowledge of who they really are. My favorite of the group is Wolverine as a clown.
Anyhow, it seems the monster is there to hunt down the last member of the Frankenstein family to get his revenge. Max doesn't exactly know what is going on but he does find his way to the circus, as do the students of the Jean Grey school. The issue closes with quite the cliffhanger of the Monster standing over Max and the teachers of the school being told to fight their students. Issue #22 promises to have some great moments.
Jason Aaron's work in this book never fails me. No matter if it is standing alone, a part of a larger event or anything else, it constantly keeps me engaged and attached to the characters. Books like this are why I gravitate more toward X-Men books than Avenger books.
