This is the only Avengers vs. X-Men tie-in this week, but man am I glad it is New Avengers. This has been my favorite Avengers title so far and this one even has Professor X in it...come on!

Anyhow, there are two things to remember before tackling this book. Firstly, Namor and Captain America go WAAAAAAY back to when they fought together in World War II against Nazis and The Red Skull. The second thing to remember is the Illuminati comics leading to "Civil War" that was a collection of the greatest minds and controlling forces of Earth: Captain America, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Mister Fantastic, Professor X, The Sub-Mariner (Namor), and Black Panther. This issue deals with this group minus Panther (I'm assuming due to what has gone down in Wakanda.)

Cap calls the meeting to try to talk Namor down, knowing that they have connections as war buddies and he feels that this is the last chance for the war to end without the Avengers being wiped totally out by the Phoenix Force. Everyone else at the table feels Namor wont show and for a surprising twist, Mister Fantastic thinks most of the stuff the Phoenix Five are doing is for the greater good and that the Avengers are being treated the way they are only because they are rebelling against it.

Regardless, there is a great moment showing completely how Xavier feels about the situation as well as a brief conversation between Namor and Cap that does not end the way Cap had hoped. Even though there was zero action in this issue there is a lot of story growth and a showing as to how far the struggle has gone.

The New Avengers #29 didn't disappoint this week. It had clean art, a moving conversation and an eye-opener of what people outside of the X-Men and Avengers see the Phoenix Five doing. This issue is easily a 9/10....good comics this week.
