"Danger Zone Part Two: Key To The Kingdom"
BOOM right off the bat Madame Web is in a coma! Poor girl...at least her kid is somewhere safe...Peter isn't though. Remember at the end of issue #695 Phil Urich Hobgoblin snatched him out of the street while his spider-sense was super sensitive. It is quickly revealed that this was done NOT because it is known that he is Spider-Man, simply that he is the guy that makes all of Spidey's gadgets...
The remainder of this issue is obviously starting the set-up for the inevitable issue #700 that Slott has been getting a lot of heat about. Modell finally gets to see what is locked in Peter's special room in Horizon (tons of Spidey gear of course) and even seems to be starting to guess that Pete is the guy in webbed tights. Modell is able to get past this and retrieve the briefcase that Kingpin wants him to get to attempt to help free Peter. We finally see what is in the case as well, the Goblin Key which gives access to Norman Osborn's most valued cache of assets...fun stuff.
Enter Roderick Kingsley who inform Phil Urich that Urich had not killed him in the past, rather it was his brother that died. Battle ensues, Peter is able to break the spider sense scrambler, get his strength back and luckily get his web-shooters from Modell who came prepared. Seeing Peter use the web-shooters didn't exactly lower Modell's thoughts of Peter maybe being Spidey...it was bound to happen.
With a now stolen from Kingpin Goblin Key in hand and two Hobgoblins on pursuit, Modell and Peter are on the run. I have to admit, this action packed issue was exactly what I am looking for from a Spidey book and why I trust Slott in whatever direction he is taking this title when it becomes Superior Spider-Man. I wish I hadn't started my reviews with this one this week...the others are going to be lack luster....
